Nobody understands the physical and mental consequences of having oversized breasts quite like Dr. Betty Kim. As a sought-after and highly respected female plastic surgeon, she has worked with many women that suffer constant pain, discomfort and embarrassment because of heavy, pendulous breasts.
Dr. Kim performs breast reduction as a solution to the pain and discomfort of extremely large breasts. Breast reduction brings the breasts into better balance and proportion with the rest of the body and provides many physical and emotional benefits. Reducing oversized breasts helps resolve chronic neck, back and shoulder pain, deep shoulder grooves, skin rashes and irritation. It allows patients to exercise and participate in physical activities that weren’t possible with a very large bust. Reducing oversized breasts is also very healing to women that have spent years feeling self-conscious or ashamed of their large chests and fighting off unwanted attention.

The Breast Reduction Procedure
The details of breast reduction surgery are determined pre-operatively in consultation with Dr. Kim. Together, she and the patient will determine the ideal breast size and how much tissue and skin must be removed to achieve the desired outcomes.
Breast reduction surgery is performed on an outpatient basis with anesthesia. Dr. Kim begins by creating the surgical incisions on the breast. She prefers the vertical pattern, which involves making an incision around the areola down to the crease of the breast. Excess breast tissue is removed from the center of the breast and the remaining tissue is then sutured together to shape the breast internally.
Dr. Kim is also well-versed in the traditional “inverted-T,” or Wise pattern, breast reduction technique. With this approach, she extends the incision down the front of the breast and then horizontally along the inframammary fold (the crease below the breast).
After removing excess breast tissue and skin and moving the breasts to a higher position on the chest wall, Dr. Kim closes the incisions and bandages the breasts.
Dr. Kim monitors her breast reduction patients closely as they recuperate and heal from surgery to ensure a safe and successful recovery. The scars from breast reduction may never fully disappear, but most patients are willing to trade the scars for the benefits of surgery.
